The serenety and rest, well known in Asia but forgotten here, gave me inspiration for a new serial paintings abouth Asia.
In Bali i searched for the roots of Walter Spies and Gerard Höfker, and felt how they must experienced this exotic enchanting ambiance.
I can still see the pictures before me as if it happened yesterday; the ambiance in Ubud, a burial on bali, a Legong dance, a balinese weddings ceremonial, or my stay in the Thai temple of Ayutaya.
All these impressions which I experienced during my travels in Asia, gives me rest and inspiration to express them on the canvas of my paintings.
The colours, warmth and beauty of Asia reminds me of my youth.
On school once, I won a price with a drawing contest abouth the tropics (Talens drawn contest from the Netherlands and the Antilles), not yet knowing that these tropics would take years later such an important place in my life.........,is everything then predestined?
